Students who purchase an airline's UM service and who request Choate-arranged transportation
will be charged an additional fee of $80 each way to cover the costs associated
with fulfilling the airline's requirements for picking up or dropping off Unaccompanied
For example, when picking up UMs on most airlines, our representative is required
to go to the airline check-in desk, clear security, and meet the student at the
gate. Similarly, the representative dropping off UMs at the airport is required
to clear security with the UM and wait at the departure gate until the UM's plane
has left the ground.
Consequently, airport wait times are longer for our representatives, increasing
the cost of transportation.
Who will pick up my child at the airport?
The airline will require the name, cell phone number, and address of the school representative who will pick up the unaccompanied minor upon arrival at the airport.
Some airlines do not require this information until passengers check in for their flight (families will receive the information from Choate with adequate time to share with the airline), but other airlines will not book the flight without the CRH representative information. The ChoateCard, the school's official identification card, serves three primary
functions: access to dormitory and campus building entrances, access to each student's ChoateCard debit
account, and identification.
The barcode at the bottom of the ChoateCard allows students to make purchases at
the School Store, Tuck Shop (cashless), and Mailroom. Students can
also withdraw funds in cash from their account balance at the Student Services Kiosk
during regular business hours. The ChoateCard account is a debit account; consequently,
students are not permitted to carry a negative balance. If a student's balance is
insufficient to complete a transaction, the transaction will be canceled until funds are added. Students are issued their ChoateCard upon arrival at no charge; there is a $25 replacement fee to replace a lost or damaged card.
